A custom card can begin with a favourite pet photograph, a child's drawing or a character you designed yourself. If your project needs a compact trading-card format, TCGPrintery prints Japanese-size cards at 59 × 86 mm, starting from one card. You supply the artwork, choose the material and check both sides before ordering.

Explore two ideas for personalised cards, then follow the steps to prepare your files and place an order.

What does Japanese size mean?

Japanese size is the name of the 59 × 86 mm format. It describes the card's dimensions, rather than the language of its text. You can prepare your own wording and illustrations for that size.

Choose the format before laying out your design. A narrow card gives you less room for a long description, so start with a readable name, a clear main image and a few lines of text. If you already have sleeves or a holder, check their stated dimensions too.

Examples of what you could print

A personalised pet card

A pet photograph can give a custom card its character. An expressive face or familiar pose, a nickname and a playful description make the design personal to the owner. A simple layout keeps the photograph easy to see at card size.

For your own version, choose a sharp photograph with enough space around the subject. Give the pet a name or nickname and write a short description that reflects its habits.

A hand-drawn gift card

A drawing made by hand can become the artwork for a printed gift card. Coloured pencils, handwritten lettering and a homemade frame give the design a personal feel. It could celebrate a birthday, thank someone or turn a shared memory into a keepsake.

To turn your drawing into a file for printing, scan it or photograph it straight-on in even light. Crop away the surrounding table, keep the lettering clear and check the result at its intended size. The original marks can remain part of the design.

Prepare your artwork for 59 × 86 mm

For Japanese-size cards, use 697 × 1016 pixels at 300 dpi when designing at the finished size. If you include 3 mm of bleed on every side, use 768 × 1087 pixels. Bleed is the extra artwork outside the cut line.

You can upload finished-size artwork and let the designer add bleed. It also recognises files with the correct bleed already included. The print-ready files guide explains how to review cropping and colour warnings.

The free Japanese-size PNG template marks the bleed, cut line and safe area. Keep names and important details inside the safe area, then hide the guide before exporting. Work in RGB and use your original image or scan; enlarging a small screenshot cannot recover missing detail.

Upload, pair the backs and review

  1. Add your files. Open the Japanese-size designer and upload JPG, PNG, WebP or PDF artwork.
  2. Set the backs. Upload a shared back for the deck or assign a different back to an individual card.
  3. Inspect each card. Check names, small text, image placement, front/back pairing and the bleed view.
  4. Choose copies and material. Confirm how many of each card you want, then review the displayed deck price.
  5. Check the cart. Review the selected options, delivery address and complete total before payment.

The step-by-step tutorials show the upload, card-back and review controls. For a drawing with fine lettering, one sample card can help you judge its physical readability before ordering more.

Choose paper or a reflective finish

Standard stock has a white core; Black Core uses a black core. Compare the printed samples on the quality page when choosing the appearance for your project.

Holo Foil covers the full card, while Partial Foil applies to selected areas. Both offer Holo, Surge and Galaxy effects. With Partial Foil, you can select a pattern or create a foil map for the areas you want to shine.

For a pet card, consider highlighting the frame while leaving the face easy to see. For a child's drawing, consider whether a plain finish better suits the pencil marks. A deck uses one paper choice, so separate cards requiring different materials into different decks.
