Personalized cards can turn a customer's photo, a pet portrait or a shared memory into a small physical keepsake. If you design products for an Etsy store, TCGPrintery can print these kinds of cards using your own artwork. Create the design, add your customer's details and prepare the finished fronts and backs for printing.
Your product might be a single anniversary card, a collection of illustrated pet cards or a complete photo deck. Start with one clear idea and a repeatable way to personalize it. The design, customer communication and product presentation are what make the result your shop's own creation.
What could you create for your Etsy store?
Look at the occasion your customer is buying for and build a card around it:
- Couple cards: a portrait or photograph, names, an anniversary date and a short message on the back.
- Pet cards: an original illustration with a pet's name, favourite activity and a few playful personality details.
- Photo decks: a series of family pictures, wedding memories or travel photographs arranged in your own layout.
- Artist collections: cards featuring your illustrations, characters or miniature stories, with a consistent back for the series.
Give your collection its own typography, artwork and visual identity. A simple layout with a readable name and a strong image can be more effective than filling every corner with decoration.

Keep the design your own
Etsy's Creativity Standards allow sellers' original designs to be printed by a production partner. The standards require disclosure of production assistance and accurate shipping-origin information. Your Etsy listing should explain your creative role and how the physical item is produced.
Use marketplace examples to understand the type of product, not as artwork to reproduce. Build your own card frames and backs, and use photographs, illustrations and fonts you have permission to use. If a customer supplies a photograph, make sure they can authorize its use for the order.
Decide what buyers can personalize
Before creating a listing, make a sample order yourself. What information would you need to finish it without asking five follow-up questions? Define the photo requirements, name length, available layouts and any optional message.
For a pet card, you might request one clear portrait, the pet's name and three short personality details. For a couple card, request a photograph, both names, a date and a message limit. Keep the choices manageable so you can deliver consistent results.
Etsy's current personalization tools include text fields, lists of options and file uploads. Set up the fields that suit your product, with clear instructions for each. Explain whether buyers receive a proof and when they need to approve it.
Prepare your personalized cards for printing
TCGPrintery can print your own personalized photo and portrait layouts, including custom fronts and backs. For a photo playing-card deck, prepare every playing-card face as well as the personalized back. Choose Standard 63 × 88 mm, Japanese 59 × 86 mm or Tarot 70 × 120 mm to suit the design, then compare stock and foil options.

1. Build a reusable artwork layout
Separate the elements that stay the same from the details that change. Keep the card frame, text styles and back consistent, then replace the portrait, name or message for each order. Save a clean master file so you can start the next customer's version without carrying over someone else's details.
Check the design at its finished size. Leave important text and faces safely inside the cut area, extend backgrounds into the bleed and use images with enough detail for print. Our print-ready files guide explains the preparation.
2. Order a sample of your own design
Open Order Now, choose the format that fits your layout and upload your finished artwork. Review the front, the assigned back and the number of copies. Compare the available materials on our quality page before selecting your configuration.
A physical sample helps you judge the portrait, text and card surface together. Include a representative design with the small text and dark areas you expect to use. A digital sparkle in your illustration and a reflective foil surface are different choices.

3. Check every personalized version
Use a short checklist before submitting each print order: correct photo, spelling, date, message, back and quantity. If you offer a customer proof, obtain approval before sending the finished artwork to print. Keep that approved file clearly identified so an older revision is not ordered by mistake.
Show buyers the product they will receive
Photograph your own printed sample for the listing. Show the front, back and enough detail to make the text and finish understandable. If you sell one card, make the quantity clear; a photograph of a full deck can create the wrong expectation.
Etsy's listing image requirements explain the applicable photography rules. Present a finished personalized example, describe which details change and make sure any additional mockups accurately represent your product. Marketplace screenshots in this article are examples of independent listings, not images to reuse in your shop.
Price the whole job and plan the handoff
Allow for artwork time, customer revisions, printing, delivery, any packaging you provide and Etsy charges. Check Etsy's current Fees & Payments Policy for the costs that apply to your shop. Your printing cost alone is not the complete cost of a personalized sale.
Agree the production and delivery arrangements before promising them to buyers. Your processing time should include collecting the customer's details and approving the artwork, as well as printing and shipping. Etsy's production-partner guidance explains how to disclose production assistance in the relevant listings.
